Faith is an important thing.
We all like to think that we are in control of our lives, and to a large degree we are. We control what we do, what we say, even what we think.
We have no control over what happens to us.
Personal tragedies, the loss of a loved one, injuries, health, natural disaster… these are all things we have no control over. Famine, disease, war… these can happen to us at any time.
In fact, if you read the news right now, all of these things are happening. Farmers are struggling to keep up with the new genetically-modified drought-resistant crops. One report suggests farmers are committing suicide at a rate of one every thirty seconds. Soldiers aren’t doing much better. Apparently more soldiers in Afghanistan died from suicide than combat last year.
